School Leaders

Thomas O’Brien


Thomas O’Brien has been the Principal of UCHS for the past five years.  He joined the UCHS community after working at Williamsburg Collegiate for the previous five years, most recently holding the position of Dean of Curriculum and Instruction and an Instructional Fellow. As a math teacher, he was recognized nationally as a 2012 Math Hero Award recipient for his use of technology in the classroom. Prior to joining WCCS, Mr. O’Brien began his teaching career as a Teach For America Corps Member teaching middle school math at Crownpoint Middle School in Crownpoint, New Mexico. He also supported fellow teachers by facilitating content specific meetings as the Math Collaborative Leader for Teach For America and he has taught graduate students at the Relay Graduate School of Education. Mr. O’Brien actively engages in educational policy discussions through his work with the America Achieves National Policy Fellowship. Mr. O’Brien holds a B.S. with honors in Economics from the University of Oregon, and a Master’s with distinction in Secondary Education from the University of New Mexico.


Lindsay Schilling

Director of Operations

Lindsay Schilling has been the Director of Operations of UCHS for the past four years.  She joined the UCHS community after completing a year at multiple Uncommon Schools’ campuses as an Operations Fellow.  Prior to joining Uncommon, Mrs. Schilling received her J.D. from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law.  During law school, she served on the Kukin Program for Conflict Resolution’s Mediation Clinic, providing mediation services to middle school students at P.S. 316 in Brooklyn, as well as in Brooklyn’s Small Claims Court.  She was also selected to participate in the Youth Justice Clinic, where she represented youth in hearings before the NYC Department of Education and performed and presented research to the NYC Department of Corrections advocating against the use of solitary confinement of youth in jails.   In addition to a J.D. from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, Mrs. Schilling holds a dual B.A. in English and Political Science from the University of Michigan.
